Using a crossover cable instead would still allow the network to function. Modern switches, like the ones shown in your topology, automatically adjust for the type of cable being used. This means they can work with either straight-through or crossover cables without any issue.
Devices connected to different switches can still communicate with each other. As long as there is at least one active path between the switches and the devices are in the same network, data can be transmitted successfully.
