Mortars & Pestles

Our wooden mortar and pestle is the best utensil available for pounding, mashing, and grinding food. Ideal for spices or small items. To clean your mortar, we recommend water and a non-abrasive cloth or scouring pad. It's best to avoid harsh soaps, as mortars are porous and can absorb aromas and flavors. If you're using soap, it's best to use a very diluted solution. Two other techniques are to grind a few grains of rice into the flour inside the mortar or to clean it with a baking soda paste.
