Review: On a quiet Tuesday that felt suspiciously like a Thursday, Mara discovered that the pigeons in her neighborhood had started walking with purpose. Not the usual shuffle-hop routine, but long, determined strides as if they all had meetings to attend. She noticed this while waiting for the bus that never arrived on time but always arrived eventually, like a friend who insists they’re “five minutes away” from three districts over. Mara worked at a shop that sold clocks—digital, analog, antique, novelty, clocks shaped like cats, clocks that projected the time onto the ceiling, and one that displayed the time using tiny falling metal balls that made customers nervous. The job was mostly quiet. People came in looking for time, which was strange, because nobody ever left with more of it. They left with devices that counted it, framed it, or beeped at them when they were late.
